With the celebration of Lent upon us. It's time to think about what we will be giving up and sacrificing for the 40 days. The traditional purpose of Lent is to commit to fasting or to give up a luxury as a form of penitence.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. Lent is a special time for prayer, sacrifice and good works in preparation of the Easter celebration.
Every year I always give up something during Lent and this year I decided to get the kids involved. I asked them to think about something they could sacrifice, and give up for 40 days. My oldest, 6 said, "Macaroni and Cheese". My youngest, 4 said, "french fries". I thought both their answers were quite promising as they completely understood what I was asking. My little one and I will start our morning with 8am Mass for Ash Wednesday.
What does Lent meant to YOU?
What are you giving up for the 40 days?
For me, I will now always remember finally making the commitment to enter Adult RCIA (Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults) and receive my confirmation. I did this last year and will always remember my journey through the process. Because I have already given up a lot of things such as foods to change my diet, this Lent season, I am giving up sushi!
